Exclamation Big Bear Camping/Wheeling: Nov 4th-6th

WHO: Everyone is invited. The harder trails will require 4x4 obviously, but some scenic runs should also be planned to include any prerunners who wish to attend. High ground clearance is a plus, just to reduce some of the spotting required.

WHEN: November 4th-6th. ArgonZero and CYi5 will be going up late Friday night to setup camp and reserve spots. If anyone also wants to do this, let us know. For those who would rather meet up EARLY Saturday morning, please inform us as well so we will know to wait or not before heading out.

WHERE: Holcomb Valley Campgrounds. Trails around Big Bear.

WHAT: A camping/4wheeling trip much like the last one a couple weeks ago. We plan to run White Mountain trail as of now, and will be adding more as we find out about them. Any/all suggestions welcome! A night run Saturday night is also a good possibility. Last time we were a little crunched for time, so that is why we are spreading this out over more days.

PRICE: Adventure passes are required as we will be doing some form of recreation up there. They are $5 each. Also each campsite runs about $17 for 2 vehicles, so the more people you can fit on one and split the cost the better.

FOOD: Food is still up in the air at the moment. Feel free to bring stuff for yourself, or as an alternate plan we can all bring some cash and chip in to buy in bulk. A full size propane BBQ will also make the trip to Big Bear with us.

Notes: Hopefully the fire ban will be lifted by this time, as the weather seems to be getting increasingly cooler with added precipitation. I've just been informed that the fire level right now is HIGH, but that also means they ARE permitted in camp! YES! A little snow will probably be expected, so plan to dress and sleep warmly.

IMPORTANT: Please RSVP to the list below if you plan on attending. ONLY IF YOU ARE POSITIVE YOU CAN MAKE IT. 99.9% probability won't cut it. We don't need to overbuy supplies just to have half the people drop out the day before. Thanks, hope to see a great turn out!

Pst! Test those sliders and get Jarrett to test his rear bumper! I'd be in JV... but I have yet to fix my leaking rear diff and replace those uniballs.

If your looking for mild trails, and not hard stuff. I'd stay off John Bull and Holcomb. They arn't really that hard, but then again I did flop on John Bull!

I'm sure the So-Cal staff appreciates this run on the same weekend as JV. No Johnson Valley for you? I guess if you guys want to head down Camp Rock Road one day and join us that would be cool.

I had two people on the passenger side, on a night run. Its at a point when the trail takes a sharp off chamber right turn. There is a tree right on the side of the trail, My front drivers side tire left the ground, I backed off, took a little different line and was instantly on my side against the tree with my drivers side tires a couple feet off the ground. It was fun... just expensive.

Planning a run a year in advance is just not early enough for some people.

Tim,
I personally don't mind, atleast the members are out wheeling! Isn't that what matters? I wish I could be there too, but my rig is just not going to make it.
Later,
Chris

If that tree wasnt there you would have rolled about 8 times until you got to the other trees. I remember that spot vividly on JB, Dunk had some issues there, but I had the benefit of going second and hardly any lift. I just took a very tight inside line and pivoted off the tree with my slider. I cant take any credit however b/c I was nervous as hell, it was just an excellent spotter.

I hate tippy stuff.... and now Im 2" taller!

exactly. I love that tree now. It saved our lives. that roll would have been deadly. I couldn't see what was past the tree, but I remember it being pretty far till the next stoping point. Spotters are awesome. Next time I hit up that trail will be in a beater so damage isn't as bad.

Is this trip still as planned? I will be up there on the north side early Sat morning with another friend or two (fzj-80 land cruisers) to run something like Gold mtn, holcomb, john bull, or whatever. Just asking as it would be nice to check out some other toyotas on the trail, shoot the breeze, etc. thanks in advance and have a great weekend if we don't bump into eachother.

argonzero - thanks for the update. I checked the customtacos.com thread too. We'll swing by the campground to see what folks are up for. I'll be in my 80 - sage, snorkle, 37 krawlers...

Hey Guys and Ladies, thanks for letting us tag along and check out your rides. Beautiful day and beautiful trail, going down the mtn with the sunset was really sweet. Hope to see some of you out there again, maybe JB this time?

we actually drove out and looked at the entrance to it. Seems doable with a good spotter and a lot of time

It is do-able. Its really nice to have someone who has wheel'd that trail before too. When I get the beater we should head up, that way I'll know the trail, but I'll be a newbie in the rig. It will be a funny sight to see, pretty much guarenteed.

Yea definately! Not sure when we'll make it back out there, but having someone who has conquered it before would certainly be a plus. Not to mention you know how to fix stuff .

Of course it's doable! But sliders do seem to come into play more on JB

Let me know when you guys get up there. Also, did any of you get pics from the White Mtn. stuff? I didn't even pull my camera out once and now I'm kicking myself. Thanks in advance for any decent pics.

I've had sliders come in use more on Holcomb than John bull, but then again JB has become paved. I think we sould make a trail remodling party and push some rocks back into place, and remove the rocks filling the fun holes. Esp at the entrance!
